Did you know that a lack of vitamin C is the most common nutritional deficiency in guinea pigs?
Luckily, its also the most preventable. Vitamin C or ascorbic acid deficiency is the most common and most preventable disease in guinea pigs. Adults must be supplemented with at least 10 mg of vitamin C for every kilogram of body weight. Pregnant, nursing and growing guinea pigs need at least 30 mg of vitamin C for every kilogram of body weight. Insufficient vitamin C intake leads to a condition known as scurvy. Clinical signs of vitamin C or ascorbic acid deficiency may include rough coat, anorexia, diarrhea, bleeding from the gums, lameness and pain. Delayed wound healing and increased susceptibility to bacterial infections may also occur.
**Now Available!** Natural Science Vitamin C supplement is a hay-based, high-fiber supplement containing the essential stabilized vitamin C that guinea pigs need, and other animals benefit from during times of stress, illness or recovery. It supports overall well being and wound healing, has both immune enhancing and antioxidant properties.
Guaranteed Intake
Feeding a tablet guarantees that pets receive the entire guaranteed amount of the supplement necessary for optimum health. Supplements lose their potency when added to water. Animals may refuse or reduce the amount of water due to the taste of a water soluble supplement, which may lead to other health problems as well. Feeding a tablet, on the other hand, lets pet owners take the guesswork out of supplements.
